The Irish Law Journal, in association with the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, is now calling for submissions for its inaugural peer-reviewed and student-edited law journal. We prefer articles of at least 12,000 words. Case comments and book reviews should be a minimum of 5,000 words. Submissions may discuss any area of law and pertain to any jurisdiction; however, the Editorial Board particularly welcomes submissions that are relevant to Irish law. Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, and we envisage making the selection for our inaugural edition at the end of January.

Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts seeks submissions for Volume 6, Number 1 (Autumn 2012): Race, Ethnicity, and Appalachia. Papers must be received by January 15, 2012.
We invite papers that consider the following questions.
- What are the political and ideological implications of the gap between the demographic realities of Appalachia and outsiders’ perceptions of those same demographics? . . .
- As the touchstone of many of the “white poverty” stories we tell ourselves, it’s important to consider the particular metaphorical space Appalachia occupies within these stories. . . . What lessons about race, culture, and class should we be drawing . . .?
- The plight of Appalachia’s natural resources defines Appalachian studies and politics. . . . How do these [boom and bust] cycles influence cultural and political realities? What kinds of interventions by activists and practitioners do the misuses of natural resources demand? . . .

The Thomas Jefferson School of Law hosts the 7th Annual International Conference on Contracts March 2-3, 2012. Proposals and participation requests are due Dec. 23, 2011.
Call For Papers and Panels: We invite paper, presentation and panel proposals exploring any aspect of contract law, theory and policy. The topic range is deliberately broad to permit an as full as possible exploration of contractual themes. Past programs have thus included panels on “traditional” contracts topics (e.g. remedies, formation, defenses, etc), on contract-related subjects (insurance, consumer law, commercial law, dispute resolution, family law and restitution), and from a rich variety perspectives (historical, jurisprudential, empirical, institutional, law-and-economics, international and comparative contracting and others). We also solicit volunteers to serve as moderators or discussants for panels that are not “pre-packaged”.Participation: We will try to accommodate as many presenters, moderators, and discussants as possible. Junior scholars and those working in non-U.S. legal systems in particular are encouraged to propose papers or panels and to volunteer to serve as discussants or moderators. Anyone wishing to attend to enjoy the conference without presenting or serving as a discussant or moderator is also welcome. There is no publication requirement for conference participants. (Experience suggests that individual papers and panels are often published elsewhere).

Emory University School of Law presents Privatization and Social Responsibility Feb. 17-18, 2012. The call for papers deadline was yesterday, Dec. 8, 2011.
This workshop explores from a cross-cultural perspective how privatization impacts contemporary feminist and social justice approaches to public responsibility. Feminisms have long problematized divisions between the private and the political, partly in reaction to the unprecedented privatization of state responsibilities and public welfare over the past 30 years. Recent critical legal scholarship on vulnerability, state negligence, and resilience can complicate and deepen our understanding of the problems generated by privatization in the 21st century.
