“Who’s Looking at Your Mobile Device?” Data Security, Personal Privacy, and Information Governance in the Wireless World—Richmond, VA

University of Richmond School of Law

The Richmond Journal of Law and Technology (JOLT) will be hosting the 2015 JOLT Symposium at the University of Richmond School of Law on February 27, 2015.

The focus of the Symposium surrounds e-Discovery and Information Governance as they relate to cell phones, laptops, and other mobile devices. The tension between personal privacy and data security in the legal field are particularly prominent in mobile devices, with sensitive information accessible to outside parties through loss/theft of devices, hackers, and unsecure wireless networks. Lacking statutory guidance, how law firms and the legal field navigate this tension is a source of tension and disagreement; clients text and e-mail attorneys regarding privileged issues, attorneys utilize Facebook and Twitter to attract potential clients, but where do these texts and mobile messages fit in with e-Discovery and ethics concerns?
