Atlanta’s John Marshall Law Journal is issuing a call for papers to be published in its forthcoming Spring Symposium, “Miscarriages of Justice” in Criminal Law, held at the State Bar of Georgia building in March. The Symposium will focus on legal, ethical, and practical issues facing the Criminal Justice system in Georgia. Abstracts are due by Dec. 10, 2013.

The Editorial Board of JMLJ invites you to submit papers addressing issues in the field of Georgia Criminal Law. The purpose of the Symposium is to address flaws in Georgia’s Criminal Justice system from a “whole picture” perspective, bringing together all who play a role in the process that occurs when persons are accused of a crime. Topic areas may include, but are not limited to, obstacles challenging those who prosecute, defend, or adjudicate criminal cases in Georgia; outcomes in criminal cases contradictory to the principles of the Criminal Justice system; legal inconsistencies or flaws in Georgia precedent or legislation; victims’ rights in criminal cases; the effect of the new Georgia Code of Evidence on criminal cases.

All types of manuscripts rooted in legal propositions will be considered. Authors may be practitioners, judicial clerks, judges, professors or university lecturers. The Editorial Board will select articles based on quality of research and writing, originality, and relevance of topic.

It is imperative that all submissions conform to the Bluebook Citation of Legal Authorities. The Law Journal has a word limit of 15,000 – 20,000 words, not including footnotes.

Those interested in participating should submit a one-page abstract summarizing their proposed topics by December 10, 2014 for early consideration. Should your paper be tentatively accepted for publication, full drafts will be due on January 5, 2014.

Final deadline for all other submissions (full draft only): January 15, 2014.
