Prize for Professional Responsibility Article

Submissions and nominations of articles are now being accepted for the third annual Fred C. Zacharias Memorial Prize for Scholarship in Professional Responsibility. To honor Fred’s memory, the committee will select from among articles in the field of Professional Responsibility with a publication date of 2012. The prize will be awarded at the 2013 AALS Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Please send submissions and nominations to Professor Samuel Levine

deadline for submissions and nominations is September 1, 2012.

Call for Papers: International Legal Ethics Conference – Banff, Canada

The Law Society of Alberta and the University of Calgary are sponsoring the Fifth International Legal Ethics Conference from July 12-14, 2012 at the Banff Centre. Papers will be presented on the following:

1. Culture, Ethics & Society
2. Empirical Approaches to Legal Ethics
3. Philosophy and Legal Ethics
4. Regulation of the Profession(s) / Ethics and Education

The deadline for proposals is January 31, 2012.

Ethics in War, Terrorism, and Military Law – Omaha, NE

The Creighton University Law Review hosts the fourth annual multidisciplinary symposium at Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska, March 25, 2011. The Law Review is soliciting papers to be presented at the symposium, which will explore the theme of ethics in war, terrorism, and military law. Authors from legal, military, or social science perspectives are invited to submit papers for discussion at the symposium.

The submission deadline is Dec. 15, 2010. Authors of selected papers will be notified by January 15, 2011, and they will be invited to present their work at the symposium being held March 25, 2011. Travel expenses up to $500 and all lodging expenses for presenters will be reimbursed by the Law Review. Qualifying papers will be published in the fourth issue of the Creighton Law Review, which is devoted to the symposium.

Professor Lyons will give a response. Boston University Law Review will publish the papers and proceedings. Legal Profession in Times of Turbulence – Stanford, CA

The Stanford Center on the Legal Profession will host the fourth International Legal Ethics Conference, at Stanford Law School on July 15-17, 2010. This will be the first time the conference will occur in the United States.

The conference, titled “The Legal Profession in Times of Turbulence,” will focus on a broad range of issues including the conditions of legal practice, bar regulatory structures, law firm culture, access to justice, diversity, cause lawyering, client relationships, conflicts of interest, globalization, and legal ethics education.
