		<description><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://law.txwes.edu/LawReview/tabid/711/Default.aspx"><em>Texas Wesleyan Law Review</em></a> will host its <strong>Fourth Annual Energy Symposium</strong> in the Spring of 2012 (tentatively scheduled for the last week in March). Abstracts are due June 15, 2011.<!--more--></p>
<blockquote><p>The 2012 Energy Symposium will focus on a wide variety of energy-related issues exploring topics from the perspectives of the operator, royalty owner, surface owner, regulator, and municipality. In addition to scholarly articles, we encourage authors to submit papers for our <strong>first annual Energy Law Survey</strong>. Our Survey is aimed at legal practitioners and will review emerging legal issues among nine different states as an annual comparative law survey on oil and gas.</p>
<p>Interested authors and presenters should submit an abstract of approximately 500 words to texwesenergysymposium [at] gmail.com by June 15, 2011. Please submit a resume or curriculum vitae along with the abstract. Authors and presenters will be informed by July 15, 2011, of the outcome of the initial review process. Papers accepted for publication will be published in a special Symposium Issue or Survey Issue of the <em>Texas Wesleyan Law Review</em>.</p>
<p>Examples of emerging topics that we encourage authors, speakers, and panelists to submit include, but are not limited to:</p>

<li>Horizontal drilling challenges and developments</li>
<li>Seismic and geophysical testing</li>
<li>Legislative developments and trends</li>
<li>Municipalities and regulation through local ordinances</li>
<li>Clean technology in the Oil &amp; Gas Industry</li>
<li>Environmental developments</li>
<li>Claims for damage, injury, or death arising from drilling rig or work-site accidents</li>
<li>Pipeline construction, placement, and easement disputes</li>
</ul>
<p>The date for the 2012 Energy Symposium is tentatively scheduled for the last week in March and will be determined after the initial review process. The theme of the conference is <strong>Challenging Orthodoxy</strong>. The deadline for submitting abstracts is May 13, 2011.</p>
<blockquote><p>The Obligations series of conferences originated at the University of Melbourne in 2002, and has since become one of the leading private law conferences in the common law world. The conferences have been held at the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, and the National University of Singapore. Mostly recently, the <a href="http://lawweb.nsms.ox.ac.uk/obligations/index.php">Obligations V</a> Conference was held at the University of Oxford. 2012 will mark the first time that the conference will be held in North America.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Scholars working in the fields of contract, tort, unjust enrichment, equity or private law theory are invited to submit proposals for papers addressing the conference theme. The theme is intended to encourage scholars to question some of the common law’s established rules and approaches and to propose novel solutions to old problems. . . . This two-day symposium will be the 3rd annual “Law and Society” series sponsored by the Charleston Law Review and the Riley Institute.</p>
