Doctoral Research, Gender and Law – Lucerne, Switzerland

The UNILU (University of Lucerne) Network of Transnational Doctoral Research will focus in 2012 on Gender Studies and Law.

From January to December 2012, the 2012 Doctoral Program on Gender and Law will include two different types of activities available to a group of Swiss and international doctoral students.
1. Intensive Doctoral Training Workshop (June 28-29, 2012).
2. Transnational Research Colloquium on Gender and Law (Nov. 16-17, 2012)

Call for Papers – Emerging Economies in Globalized Financial Markets

Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and Friedrich Schiller University Jena invite junior and senior researchers in the fields of economics, law and political science to submit papers for presentation at the 4th Annual Conference of the Graduate School.

The deadline for submission is 30 April 2012.

The 2008 world financial crisis and the subsequent European debt crisis accelerated the shift of economic power and political influence from Western countries towards fast growing emerging economies such as China, India, Brazil, Russia or South Africa. The G10 became the G20 and country representation at the IMF is likely to change. Thus, the time seems right to address anew the role of emerging economies in globalized financial markets and discuss their participation, interests and responsibilities in a financially globalized world at the 4th Annual Conference of the Graduate School “Global Financial Markets”.

TOPICS: We invite junior and senior researchers in the fields of economics, law and political science to submit papers for presentation. We welcome theoretical and empirical papers as well as case studies focusing on specific regions. Papers should either address the conference’s general subject or more specifically the following panel topics. Each panel will be introduced by a keynote speaker.
- The role of BRIC countries in international financial markets and international financial market regulation: participation, influence and control
Keynote speaker: Peter Draper (South African Institute of International Affairs & WITS University)
- International financial standards – should, must and do emerging markets implement them?
Keynote speaker: Iwa Salami (University of East London)
- The right approach to liberalize financial markets in emerging economies?
Keynote speaker: Frank Westermann (University of Osnabruck)
- Capital control – friend or foe for emerging markets financial services liberalization?
Keynote speaker: Emanuel Kohlscheen (Brazilian Central Bank)

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: The deadline for submission is 30 April 2012. Full papers or extended abstracts should be submitted electronically to jasper.finke@jura.uni-halle.de along with your affiliation and email address. Acceptance notification will be made by 1 May 2012. Travel funding is available upon request for authors of accepted papers. Accommodation costs will also be covered by the graduate school.

The Jean Monnet for Economic and Regional Law & Justice at NYU Law hosts the 2012 Annual Junior Faculty Forum for International Law May 29-30, 2012.

The Forum is designed as an annual event to allow international legal scholars, in the first six years of their academic career, an opportunity to discuss a working paper, idea or set of arguments, by being paired with a senior scholar in the field of international law who will be assigned to comment on the paper when it is presented to the Forum.

Applications were due last fall (Oct. 15, 2011). Participation is by invitation only. mw

Jewish Law Association – New Haven, CT

The Jewish Law Association in conjunction with the Yale University Program in Judaic Studies will hold the 17th International conference of the JLA at Yale Law School July 30-August 2, 2012.

The general call for papers deadline was Jan. 31, 2012, but there is a separate call for papers for students and emerging scholars. That submission deadline is March 31, 2012.

The Jewish Law Association is now accepting applications from graduate students, law students, and other emerging scholars, to participate on a plenary panel.

The goal of the panel is to recognize and encourage the next generation of scholars and teachers of Jewish Law. The panel will include presentations by emerging scholars, including graduate students in law and other disciplines, who will outline their research agendas and career aspirations in Jewish Law and Jewish Legal Studies. In addition to presenting their research at a major conference, these emerging scholars will benefit from suggestions by senior scholars on the panel and comments from the audience. The conference schedule will also include opportunities for informal discussions with scholars and teachers of Jewish Law.

Please submit a statement of interest, including a brief biography and research agenda, along with a current CV, to Larry Rabinovich, treasurer of the Association, lrabinovich@hblaw.com. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2012. mw
