Call for Papers Deadline: Legal Processes Beyond the State – Dublin

University College Dublin will host its third annual Legal Research Conference for postgraduates on 5-6 December 2008. This year’s conference will revolve around the theme of “Legal Processes Beyond the State”. While the state remains a vital player, legal processes are no longer work solely within the traditional national order. Legal regimes now operate on supranational (e.g. EU), global (e.g. WTO) and transnational (e.g. private standards) levels. The goal of the UCD Legal Research Conference 2008 is to provide a forum for researchers at every level of postgraduate study to present and discuss the nature of the legal processes operating through these orders and their relationship to each other.

Papers in the following areas are especially welcome:
• Novel legal processes (e.g. sites of private law making).
• The relationship between legal regimes at various levels (e.g. EU and national law; private standards and the WTO).
• Comparative studies of these legal regimes (e.g. EU and WTO).
• Human rights on the supranational level.
• Issues which arise when legal processes are no longer tethered to the nation state (e.g. the legitimacy and effectiveness of such regimes).

The Conference invites interested postgraduate researchers to submit an abstract of fewer than 400 words, together with contact details to submissions [at] ucdconference.com The closing date for submissions is 20 October 2008. Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance of papers will be sent no latter than 31 October 2008. The deadline for submission of final papers is 20 November 2008.
